Waggoner's Gap Hawk Watch

Over the Spring 2017 semester, I conducted a count of bird species at the Waggoner's Gap Hawk Watch just north of Carlisle, PA. Run by the National Audubon Society, the Hawk Watch is a prime site to see raptors following the ridges of south-central PA during their fall migration. While extensive bird counts have been conducted from August to December, there is less data on bird species at Waggoner's Gap in winter and early spring. Since February, I have visited the Hawk Watch each week to observe and record bird species.

While New Jersey's beaches are known for their tourism, they are also home to unique wildlife, including several species of endangered birds. American Oystercatchers, Least Terns, and Piping Plovers all breed on New Jersey beaches during the summer months and face threats from beachgoers. With the Wreck Pond Watershed Association, I helped make beachgoes aware of the nesting birds and informed them of how to safely share the beach with these species.
